Acne-scar treatments require that a person's skin is free of active acne. If you still have acne breaking out, then get treated for active acne before seeking treatment for acne-scars.
Normally redness or hyper-pigmentation after acne breakout fades in about 6-12 months. Any colour change or skin defect persisting even after 1 year is considered as a permanent defect or scar.
The type and depth of scars influence the choice of treatment. Selection of the procedure may be guided in part by the result the patient wishes to be achieved.
Treatments
Treatment of acne scars requires both correction of skin imperfections and the production of new collagen to improve the area’s tone and texture.
Various treatment options are :
Traditional approaches—such as deep chemical peeling, conventional lasers (ablative lasers - carbon dioxide and erbium-YAG), topical agents and abrasion therapies like dermabrasion, microdermabrasion and dermaroller—usually achieve only mild to moderate results. In addition, some of these treatments destroy a lot of healthy tissue along with the scar and often require extensive recovery time.
Fraxel dual
It is an effective US FDA approved non-ablative laser treatment for acne scars as it harnesses the body’s natural healing process to create new, healthier & tighter tissue for replacing the skin imperfections.
Fraxel Dual treatment produces thousands of tiny but deep columns of treatment in your skin, known as micro thermal treatment zones. These penetrate deep into the dermis, alongside are areas of skin that Fraxel dual leaves untouched. This “fractional” treatment allows the skin to heal faster. In this way, Fraxel dual treatment improves the elasticity, texture and tone of the damaged skin while keeping your healthy tissue intact. This minimizes discomfort and downtime.
Unlike other procedures, Fraxel dual treatment not only replaces damaged skin on the surface but it also reaches deep into the skin to stimulate collagen remodeling thus targeting acne scars of various depths. It gently and safely reduces the appearance of acne-scar and provides more consistent & successful results because of uniform treatment ensured by its Intelligent Optical Tracking® system.
Surgical Excision
Under local anesthesia may be considered in selected cases of very deep scars. The newly produced scar after the surgery eventually fades and may not be noticeable.
Dermal Fillers
Can be injected into acne scars to raise the surface of the skin and give a smoother look. It does not correct acne scars permanently, so further injections are required.
